Senex puerum portabat Beatitude 6

Dominus mihi adjutor

SATB chorus a cappella
No. 0105

Text

Ps 117 : 6 ; 5, 13–14, 17

Dominus mihi adjutor;
non timebo quid faciat mihi homo.

De tribulatione invocavi Dominum,
et exaudivit me in latitudine Dominus.

Impulsus eversus sum, ut caderem,
et Dominus suscepit me.
Fortitudo mea et laus mea Dominus,
et factus est mihi in salutem.

Non moriar, sed vivam,
et narrabo opera Domini.

The Lord is with me; I am not afraid;
what can mortals do against me?

In danger I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.

I was hard pressed and falling,
but the Lord came to my help.
The Lord, my strength and might,
has become my savior.

I shall not die but live
and declare the deeds of the Lord.

About the piece

Dominus mihi adjutor is a solemn but reassuring response to the experience of fear. Rather than surrendering to despair, it looks for support in the promise that the Lord will be our help.

This piece is suitable for a college choir or an accomplished high school choir. The performance length is about three and a half minutes. If you would like to order parts or a free sample copy, please send me an email.
